Hot Design for the (Late) Summer
Designed by Redhound Studios for a private investor, this gizmo could make a real difference to anyone who’s water supply is metered. It measures the amount of water used and can be programmed switch on and off at preset times or to a specific volume of water. After which it will bleep intermittently to let you know or shut off completely. This is ideal if you are watering a lawn or such like. It can also tell you the current flow rate, calculate the cost per hour of using your hosepipe and has multiple ‘trip’ style features.
The menu driven control panel is very easy to use and navigate. The computer and shut-off valve are powered by a battery which is cleverly charged by a small turbine rotated by the flow of water through the device.
Totally waterproof, the body is moulded in durable industrial grade butyl able to withstand the usual outdoors punishment. The controls and menu screen are protected by a tough, sliding cover made of thick, clear acrylic resisting scratches much better than polycarbonate. The device can be wall mounted or spliced into the hose requiring only a couple of standard push fittings.
They should be on the shelves of selected retailers by mid-summer.
